What a year it’s been, right? For me, it’s gone by fast. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long since I wrote Is COVID-19 Keeping You Off The Water? In another sense, everything seems to have slowed down and some plans have been put on hold or canceled. We definitely live in a very different world now than last winter, one that nobody predicted.
I know many people who are afraid of this new world: medically, politically, financially, or all of the above. But I also know many who are not intimidated by this year’s change of events. For them and for my family, our hope for relief is not in this world. We are not of this world (John 17:14-16) but citizens of a different world (Philippians 3:20) and hope in its King alone (John 18:37).
The coronavirus is kind of ironic to me. The popular definition of the word corona is “likened to a crown.” Figuratively speaking, the virus came masquerading as a crown, like a king bent on oppressing, subjugating, or executing everyone in its path. Every power on earth has submitted to it in one way or another. No one is immune to it.
Yet when news of it strikes fear in many, He is my peace. When it attacked my body, He healed me. When it stole a portion of my life savings, He provided all my needs then, now, and will forever. Such a tiny king is no match for my King.
So again this Christmas, my family and I will celebrate His coming regardless of the threats. We are humble and grateful that He rescued us from a life of hope merely in this world, which is no real hope at all. I pray He is now or that you will soon make Him your King too because He has already overcome the world (John 16:33).
